College Admission factors
(What the colleges want to see)
With college right around the corner, both parents
and students pose the same question: What do I/they need to make it? Parents
and students agree that academics are the highest priority for colleges.
Indeed, this is true. But, other factors are not only considered, they are sought
after. Community service is ranked fourth out of the top 6 considerations and
therefore enhances an application. In fact, students who have community service
hours are often chosen over those who are intelligent, but have none. For
example, when my cousin applied to Texas Christian University, she was accepted
while a fellow student with better grades was not. The only difference: she was
extensively involved in her community. (“Important Admission Factors: How to
Get in and What is Considered.”)
