Dance Marathon
High schools open many
doors for a student’s involvement in community service. Because
of these opportunities, students with busy schedules can find an activity that
suits their schedule and their interests. For example, without high school I
would not be able to help develop a dance marathon for Riley Children’s’
Hospital. Our dance marathon was 6 hours of games, dancing, and other
activities. The entire time we continuously stood to illustrate our support for
this incredible hospital and the inspirational patients. We rose over $18,000.
But, the most impacting part is the incorporation of the Riley kids. Each family
shares the story of their struggle to cope with a disability or illness and how
Riley has helped them. We will never forget these children’s stories. And we
will never forget the smiles on their faces, when they walk through the student
body, as we cheer and give them our earnest attention. It touches me every year
to see the tears in the students' eyes when we reveal the total sum our
school donated to Riley Hospital. (Photograph. FCDM 2012.)
